WordPress Permalinks are known as permanent URLs (uniform resource locator) of any blog post/page or WordPress website.

We can also modify these permalinks.

It is easy to change the structure of your permalinks at any time. However doing this changes the URL of your pages, visitors will get 404 page error instead of the page they wanted to view. This can cause your search engine traffic and referral traffic to drop considerably.

301 redirects can stop the impact of a change in permalink structure, however it is still better to configure your website with the permalink structure you want from the beginning.

Permalink comes with different options like Plain, Day and name, Month and name, Numeric, Post name and Custom Structure where you can include year, month, day, hour, minute, second, post_id, etc.

WordPress offers you a different option for permalink as already shown in the above image. Do not use the default WordPress Permalinks structure because it does not support SEO.

But the best WordPress permalinks structure that support SEO is www.zerootech.com/your_post_name

This permalink structure is more search engine friendly than other structures. When a new blogger start making content and need a strong SEO strategy- they fails.

Reason-They don’t know which permalink structure is good for search engine optimization.

  • Use simple permalinks (zerootech.com/postname)
  • Prefer dashes over underscores
  • Use the main keyword in Permalink
  • Remove stop words from permalinks (such as “is” or “are)
